Shipdex Protocol and S1000D specification

20012 S1000D User Forum

Shipdex Protocol will be presented and discussed during the forthcoming S1000D User Forum, on 18-21 of June, in Denver, USA.

The S1000D User Forum is hosted by the Aerospace Industries Association (AIA), and supported by the Aerospace and Defence Industries Association of Europe (ASD) and the Air Transport Association e-Business Program (ATA). This year's Theme is "Transition from traditional technical publications to Integrated Data Environment (IDE) service information solutions."

Mr. Marco Vatteroni, SpecTec ILS Manager and Shipdex Technical Manager, will be speaking during the Panel Session “The Voice of S1000D Users” on 19th June on behalf of Shipdex  working group. This is in order to inform the wide S1000D community about the results obtained by Shipdex during its first few years of life and to answer any questions from the participants.

The further speakers on the Panel Session are:
•  Ms. Nicole Ndenge, Bundeswehr
•  Mr. Dominic Iaccarino, Pratt and Whitney
•  Mr. James Borkowski, United States Air Forces

The Panel Session will focus on “actual users” of S1000D and will provide each of the users with a platform to talk about the issues they had/have in using the specification. Their perspective will allow the forum attendees the opportunity to discuss the issues raised and also raise other issues that may be affecting them.

The growing interest in the Shipdex Protocol of several International Shipping Companies testifies that the shipping world is trying to modernize its own information structure related to the technical manuals.

The changeover foresees a huge, difficult and slow step forward: to move from paper or PDF manuals to a standardized electronic information format, in order to integrate them with other information systems.
